From the Fields of Vision...Photography
Winter of 2014-1
A clear morning just after Christmas seemed a perfect time to try out my new camera. So off I went a short drive to an area I knew.
Emanuel Lutheran, North of Donaldson, Indiana. A beautiful but cold December day |
Once Glazed Stone Silos were common. Time has brought changes. This one is a bit different from the ones of my youth, those had shingle roofs and no basket on the "pipe" side. The years have not been easy on this beauty. You can see that frost has "blown" off the outer skin of many stones.
I returned to this barn, I love how its owners have so painstakingly maintained it. There was a time while it was being repainted Jackie and I drove past the monument daily. Those trips had been in the evening. I knew then it would require morning light to make it stand out.
On another occasion I ventured north and east. Here the door that once opened daily to children, many that I suspect dreaded entering in the morning but flew out and down the steps of this now abandoned school house at day's end.
Those of us fortunate to find a few moments as we travel roads in the country often come, by chance, across vistas that we have missed time and time again.
There are those that say that the best photos come on overcast days...I disagree. But each should work with the light they like best. I like the contrast that bright sun gives...and like early morning best of all.
Ancellia College, Donaldson. IN
Turning by chance I spotted this smaller barn. It seems it only use is to store fire wood.
There are times when beauty can be found close to home. This stream runs just south of our house.
The bright color of the wagon caught my eye. Considered it a nice contrast to all the snow and earth tones. The wagon, I am sure, was once the pride of some farmer years ago. Now for most it is just too small to bother with...Sad isn't it.
Weathered wood and stone. I often consider the effort it had taken to build in years past. The fieldstones and planking. Thousands of man hours required to build the now abandoned structures that dot the countryside.
I hope you enjoy the pictures of Northern Indiana.
Stay warm this winter...but don't forget to take the time just to look around.
